Hand Drawn Flourishes

Have you ever considered drawing on your layouts?

Even if you’re not an artist with a pen or paintbrush, you can create a very special embellishment. Using a wide-tip white journaling pen, I drew the flourishes on this “delicious tradition” layout.

I would have liked to use a really great white rub-on but I didn’t have one, it was the middle of the night and I was feeling brave. The best part is that I really like the outcome of my foray into this bravery – you know, I like how the drawn on flourishes look.

Here’s an important tip: I practiced on a scrap piece of paper before drawing on my layout so I could get the strokes right. It only took a few attempts and I felt confident in putting my pen to the paper. Then afterward I retraced the strokes several times to make them bold on the page.  So next time you find yourself in need of flourishes and none on hand – consider giving hand drawing a try. You might surprise yourself.
