Alter Kit Embellishments for a Unique Touch

Altering your kits just a bit to fit your needs based on the photos you’re trying to scrapbook can really make for some fast layouts. This is a kit I did at CKC in Louisville, Kentucky during February of 2009 in a Basic Grey class. Then I went to visit my sister that Spring and got these shots of my nephews getting candy from a piñata at an Easter celebration we had attended. One of my nephews wore a great orange hoodie that matched this layout perfectly. So I decided to use it.

When I placed the photos on the layout I thought they looked good but the boys are BOYS and I wasn’t sure about using that great big flower on the right-hand side. So after thinking about it for a while, I came up with a solution: I placed ribbon behind the center of the flower and ran it straight up and off the page. This makes the flower look like a suspended piñata! And when I put the title in the title box it really drives home that piñata look.

Do you have some completed kits you could change just a skosh to make them work for your photos?
