Use Ink Pens to Add Flair

There are two great ink pen elements on this “On the Lookout!” page.

I had this great picture of our beloved black lab when she would sit and look through the fence toward the neighbor house. So when it came time to scrapbook it I was stuck on a design for awhile. I finally decided on an awesome orange paisley paper to coordinate with all the green in the photo.

I matted the photo with blue and since it’s so small a bigger white mat that I inked heavily with orange) to make it blend better with the background.

Next, I added stickers from a dog centered sticker sheet to the upper left-hand edge and lower right-hand edge of the inked mat and the lower right-hand corner of the page. I put my title word “Lookout” butted against the lower left-hand edge of the inked mat and the letters for the words “on the” which are handwritten on that inked mat.

With all the elements on three corners, the mat looked barren and begged to have something against its upper right-hand edge so I stuck a “friends forever” clear sticker with black letters there.

Finally, I felt the need to embellish the “dedicated to” sticker on the lower right edge of the mat where I had written Mercedes’ name. It just seemed to need more attention drawn to it and I felt drawing a scalloped edge with my journaling pen would do the trick.  It takes a steady hand to make such an embellishment, but it can be done with patience and if you feel more comfortable trying it with pencil first, then go over it afterward with your pen.  Basically I drew the curved scallop around the corners first and then addressed each edge individually. Once I’d done my first edge, then I knew how many scallops there were to be on each of the other edges since the sticker outlined is square in shape.

I love the simple elegance of this page and that truly pays homage to Mercedes as well because she was such a simply elegant dog.
