Sneak a Die Cut onto Your Page

Sounds silly eh? Sneaking a die cut onto a layout.  But I think it really lends itself to a found opportunity and a found treasure for the people who will look at your scrapbook after it is completed.

On this “Delightful Dinner” layout, I used a lighthouse die cut that I’d had for quite some time and I knew even as I was taking these photographs that I would use it on this page. When the time came to put the page together, I gathered all the photos and embellishments I wanted to use as well as that die cut.  I never realized the die cut would become a hidden gem on the page.

Of course I want my pictures to be the star of the page and this layout exemplifies that quite well. You almost do not even notice the blue lighthouse die cut when you first look over the page. The photos of that brick lighthouse and its silhouette are so very prominent.

To be honest with you I questioned whether to add the die cut at all, but without it the title area really did seem somewhat barren and in need of something. The die cut chops up the left edge of the block of paper beneath the title letters making it not so stark against the photo. Plus the blue of the sky in the photo blends well with the die cut and I believe that combination of factors makes this understated embellishment look perfectly at home on this layout.

Try using die cuts that fit with the theme of your page or the photos therein and see if you find any hidden gems in your stash – I’ll bet you do!
