Modernize Old White Backgrounds with Inking
Every now and then, a technique comes along that you begin using regularly and you finally realize you can use it to update some older scrapbook supplies and make them current again.
On this “Paradise” layout that is exactly what I did. The title block is printed on white paper and was part of a travel page of titles and sayings that I got about ten years ago.
I kept the title because I liked it but honestly I have made beachy layouts since then and always seemed to skip this title when I put those other layouts together. In true scrapbooker pack-rat style I kept keeping it just in case!
One day it occurred to me to ink the edges. Ka-blam! I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of that earlier. I knew right away it was going in my wedding trip album and I started digging for it. I did some other embellishing on it too like cutting the top edge with scalloped scissors, adding a “bling” rhinestone to dot the letter I, adhering a stamped and colored palm tree in the upper right corner and nestling it into a mat with punched corners. But those inked edges really bring it up to date in my opinion.
So take a trip down memory lane through your scrap stash to see if you have some new tricks in your arsenal to update some treasures that haven’t made it to a page yet.
